One among my favourite components of eating at an Indian restaurant is the assortments of sauces that accompany the meal. The little bowls of chutneys pack a mighty punch, including daring hits of taste to each chew. Based on meals author Annada D. Rathi, chutney probably comes from the Hindi word “chaatna,” which means “to lick,” and meals historian Pushpesh Pant “hypothesizes that chutneys could also be among the many oldest known prepared foods.”
