Tsakani – The youth of Kwatsaduza can sing, dance, rap, play chess, spin bicycles, and play soccer. The question is, what can’t they do?
The community was amazed on Sunday when they experienced the talent in this township.
Rockville Men’s Forum hosted a Youth Day event at Le Rock, where young people had a space to express themselves creatively.
The programme began with a 3km fun walk followed by musical performances from choirs and local artists.
“We experienced talent we did not even know we had in Kwatsaduza. I felt goosebumps watching those performances,” the event’s organiser, Thabo Mosamo, said.
Thapelo Lebeloane (seven) opened the event with a prayer. The crowd, touched by the prayer, cheered for him afterwards.
“It’s rare to find such a young boy who can deliver such a powerful prayer. Even his mother was surprised,” Mosamo revealed.
All the participants received participation medals, and some won trophies.
“Everybody is a winner at the end of the day. We didn’t want anyone to go home empty-handed,” Mosamo added.
Among the trophy winners was 24-year-old Mpho Motebele, who won multiple chess games.
“I’ve played chess for four years now, and my wish is for the upcoming generation to take an interest in chess and for the community to be more exposed to it,” Motebele said.
Voices of Faith, an NPO that recruits young people, rendered poetry, musical items and dance.
“It is a privilege for us to have this event in our community. I hope the forum continues recognising upcoming local artists and organisations,” the NPO’s co-founder, Vusimuzi Masola, said.
Mosamo concluded by saying the forum’s primary focus is to celebrate the youth by giving them a stage to express themselves.
“When children are free, they can show their true selves, and today was proof of that,” he said.
