Duduza – Monde Phathi (26), also known as ‘DJ FreshZinto’, plays multiple genres, focusing on keeping his fans entertained.
He said his love for music started at a young age in 2007 when his grandfather introduced him to various melodies, themes and genres.
“My grandfather used to play his classic vinyl records to his customers, and sometimes, he let me choose the records from his collection. Doing this pleased me and his customers.
“When I realised the pleasure I got from music, I knew then that I wanted to make music. I never looked back,” said Phathi.
Phathi said he gradually moved into beat matching, and later was exposed to the software Virtual DJ, which is when his career started.
He further cited that through research, he was exposed to artists like DJ Sbu and Zola 7, who motivated him in a big way, saying it motivated him to do well and further showed him that a young man from a small township could make big moves in the music industry.
“My style of music is a fusion of different genres, and the reason behind that is to make everyone feel accommodated when I play my sets. I want everyone in the room with me to feel some healing, regardless of age, through my music,” he cited.
He also mentioned that music exposed him to the industry’s various dynamics because he now maturely handles events.
“I am well connected and can travel places through my music. I have also performed at various events, venues and clubs. I work with various people in the industry, and work many events, such as Potjie Kos Yama 90s, the Braai Festival, and my own FreshZinto’s One Man Show,” Phathi said.
“FreshZinto’s One Man Show is an event featuring local artists, and it gives them a platform to showcase their craft to a large and versatile crowd. I play the best set for three hours at Mh2 Lifestyle in Duduza during my show. The three hours are crucial. I play the best music to ensure I please my crowd,” he said.
Phathi added that he is working on an EP, Mamokete, dedicated to his late mother. It is due for release sometime in October.
“The EP portrays my childhood stories up until the peak of my youth. My mother played a significant role in raising me and contributed positively to shaping me for my adult years,” he added.
He said his fans can expect a good EP, and it would give them an insight into his life.
