Duduza – Keitumetse ‘Miyagi Li’ Molakeng (20) is a hip-hop rapper who gained her passion for music when her uncle was still a DJ, creating deep house instrumentals.

“His production process was inspiring. I then looked deeper into exploring different sounds before I felt drawn to the art of hip-hop/rap.

“Although rap is my element, I do not box myself in. My exploration of sounds allows my versatility to swiftly make magic,” she said.

She mentioned she used to compose poems based on her life experiences, saying writing has helped her become more expressive.

She further mentioned it has surfaced self-awareness, emotional intelligence and many other benefits in her life; and has, most importantly, increased her creativity.

“I started making music when I was in primary school. It started as a hobby until I felt I could do more with my poetic skills. And this is how I initially got into rap music.

“I put my emotions into my music. I tell my stories through rap. Music keeps me sane; it quiets down my mind and positively influences the nervous system where negative thoughts and anxiety reside,” said Molakeng.

She said she gave up on herself a couple of times when she first started making her mark in the music industry. But because she lives through music, she later found her feet.

“I aspire to inspire greatness in everyone. Society has way too many absurd rules that deny us happiness by embracing our true identities.

“As a young musician, I represent the truth and I aim to make an impact in young people’s lives. My music is like therapy. It provokes thought, heals and inspires change,” said Molakeng.

She added she draws inspiration from giants well-established in the music industry such as J. Cole, and H.E.R, and because of her love for jazz and soul, she also listens to Chet Baker, Jill Scott, and Anita Baker.

She also mentioned she has so far released nine songs, five in the form of an EP and four songs as singles.

“I am also working on something, but I do not have a specific date for release. It could be a surprise release. My fans can so long stream the available music on social and music platforms,” she added.
