The Speaker of Council in the CoE, Clr Nthabiseng Tshivhenga, officiated the swearing-in of an ActionSA councillor last Friday.

Clr Tumelo Brian Tshabalala took his oath of office before the speaker as per Rule 11 (1), (2) and (3) of the CoE Standing Orders By-Law.

These rules make provision for councillors to swear or affirm their faithfulness and obedience to the republic, the constitution and council before a magistrate in a council meeting or at any time by arrangement before the speaker in the speaker’s office.

Tshivhenga welcomed the new councillor, who can now participate in the official business of council, and wished him well in serving the people of Ekurhuleni with integrity and upholding his sworn oath.
