Karateka unites at friendly championships

KWF Springs Karate Club showcased their skills at the annual October interclub championship on October 19.

The championship at the Brakpan Indoor Sport Centre saw karatekas from local dojos competing for the friendly championship.

Sensei Fanie du Plessis from KWF said they were grateful to have been invited by sensei Chris Anthony to be a part of the event.

“Our members did very well and I am proud of all of them,” said Du Plessis.

The results from the championships are as follows:
Novice (white and yellow belt) kata: Owenkosi Moyeni (silver), Tanaka Makiwa (bronze), Asimbonge Nhlapo (bronze), Kaleb Walker (bronze), Elry Holmes (bronze), Kagisho Mohatsela (bronze), Desire Muhlungu (gold), Tinike Foster (silver), Asanda Simelane ((bronze), Percy Schnepel (silver) and Sphiwe Mthombeni (gold).

Intermediate (orange and green belts) kata: Luandre Jacobs (bronze), Uminathi Mudau (gold) and Bryan Kapp (gold).

Advanced (blue and purple belts) kata: Meetesh Kunver, (silver), Theodore van Eck (gold), Jazmin Conradie (silver), Leandra Kruger (bronze) and Damian Pretorius (gold).

Open (red, brown and black belts) kata: Narine Jansen (bronze), Matthew Barlow-Jones (bronze), Johndre Williams (silver) and Luhandre Williams (gold).

Novice (white and yellow belts) kihon ippon kumite: Tanaka Makiwa (bronze), Owenkosi Moyeni, (silver), Asimbonge Nhlapo (bronze), Kaleb Walker (gold), Keagan van Eck (bronze), Elry Holmes (silver), Kagisho Mohatsela (gold), Desire Muhlungu (bronze), Tinike Foster (bronze), Asanda Simelane (bronze), Percy Schnepel (bronze), and Sphiwe Mthombeni (bronze).

Intermediate (orange and green belts) kihon ippon kumite: Luhandre Jacobs (gold), Uminathi Mudau (gold), Bryan Kapp (silver) and Dewandre van Tonder (bronze).

Advanced (blue and purple belts) kihon ippon kumite: Meetesh Kunver (gold), Jazmin Conradie (gold) and Leandra Kruger (silver). Intermediate (orange and green belts) kumite: Luhandre Jacobs (bronze).

Advanced (blue and purple belts) kumite: Theodore van Eck (bronze), Jazmin Conradie (bronze), Leandra Kruger, (bronze)

Open (red, brown and black belts) kumite: Narine Jansen (silver), Matthew Barlow-Jones (bronze) and JJ Jansen (bronze). The karate club is located on Ermelo Road on Casseldale.
