“[Parenthood] inundates your life in a way that is so wonderful,” she continued, “but it’s a lot of work and it leaves so little room for your old life.”
Which is why the Emmy winner makes sure to prioritize herself whenever she can.
“I don’t see that as a selfish parent,” Amanda added. “I see that as somebody who wants to be whole for their kids, because your kids deserve full parents.”
Amanda also explained that as someone who has dealt with anxiety issues for much of her life, taking that time for herself helps ensure she’s at her best to help Nina and Thomas deal with any hardships they might be facing.
“I just want my kids to know that they can come to me no matter what,” she said. “Embarrassed, fearful, anxious, excited, whatever they’re feeling, if they let it out a little bit, it’s liberating.”
