Duduza – The Kids Sip and Design workshop is for children who are from Kwatsaduza. The workshop is designed to inspire young minds and encourage kids to explore their creativity.

The goals of the workshop include promoting self-expression, fostering collaboration, enhancing critical thinking, building confidence, developing new skills, and providing a fun and engaging learning environment.

The concept started during Covid-19 but materialised this year. The first workshop was held on July 7.

The founder of the workshop, Bontle Mphuti (31) cited that the idea is to bring change into the community.

“We feel that by creating an innovative programme, kids will excel in the outside world. Design workshops are essential in various fields which include product design, service design, business strategy and user experience design,” she said.

Mphuti further cited that their workshops provides a structured environment where children can explore various forms of art, engage in hands-on activities, and develop their creative potential through guided activities and interaction with peers and instructors.

She said the workshops often aim to nurture a love for art and creative expression from a young age, which can have long-lasting benefits in terms of cognitive development, self-expression, and problem-solving skills.

“It is going to be a monthly thing to make sure we teach as many kids as possible the beauty of art.

“Our focus is to collaborate with schools because the creative design workshop can make a significant positive impact preparing children for the outside world.

“Our target audience is children between the age of seven and 18 years, I chose them because they are at a stage where they are highly teachable and possess strong creative thinking abilities.

“This age range allows us to engage with them effectively,” said Mphuti.

Mphuti further mentioned that the content of their workshop varies widely depending on its focus but common topics include skills training, specific industry knowledge, professional development and how to make money out of art or design.

“We also teach these kids communication skills, technical skills, decision making and presentation skills.

“The workshops aim is to foster a well-rounded set of abilities useful in both creative endeavours and everyday life,” Mphuti said.

Mphuti added that the workshop is in need of sponsors and donations to make their workshop environment feel like a home and a space for innovators.

“Donations needed for our design workshop include art supplies, internet connection for research, chairs for seating, projectors for displaying instructions, and laptops for digital design activities.

“These items ensure a well-equipped and conducive environment for creative learning and collaboration also funds to pay our team and facilitator,” she added.

She further added that sponsorship through funding is necessary for various reasons such as research development, operation and growth, to cover venue rental, rental material and stipends for facilitators.
