Kwa-Thema – Local aspiring filmmakers Kagiso Motlhabi (29) and Sipho Mtsweni (30) have written a short series called Bobo.

“Bobo is just a character I created from a young age.

“We decided to use my childhood fiction to make a series.

“This series is based on a very brave individual who constantly needs to remain strong throughout every battle he faces in life no matter his circumstances.

“He loses his mother from a heart attack after she found out that his father, who is in jail, killed his older brother.

“At a young age, the character is forced to make drastic decisions in his life.

“This art piece is inspirational and has been a work in progress.

“We started writing Bobo in 2022 and we are still adding to it.

“The purpose of this series is to encourage young people through a film that is locally produced and depicts the daily life of a typical kasi guy.

“We want young people from Kwatsaduza to watch this kasi-based series and feel inspired, involved, educated, and for everyone to feel as if a part of their life has been told through a single character.

“We want to give struggling young people hope for a better future,” said Motlhabi.

Mtsweni said Bobo is a collaboration of ideas between two friends.

“Before everything, my friend and I used to talk about making a local based series but had never put in any work to it.

“One day after our morning jog, we decided to brainstorm ideas on a local show and that was followed by research.

“We did as much research as we could about script writing, construction of ideas and from there onwards, we have never looked back.

“We have now come to a point where we want actualise what we have written.

“We want to share our creativity with the world, we are prepared to raise funds, knock on doors we have never imagined knocking on just to make our small series a big production,” added Mtsweni.

Mtsweni said they are planning a night of entertainment as a way to raise funds for their project.

“We plan on hosting a comedy show on July 26.

“Entrance will be free, and I will be showcasing my comedic abilities to the public.

“The only thing we need from our community is monetary donations.

“The little that a person can give us will make a difference to our pockets and will help us work towards getting equipment,” he said.

Motlhabi added that they are looking for sponsorship for their art project.

“We would love to have sponsor support so that we can be able to get the necessary equipment to shoot our series.

“We need support from the community.

“Once we have started making progress on the donation part, we will host auditions for the youth of Kwatsaduza to keep them off the streets and employed.

“Our plan is to uplift young actors and actresses.

“We want to bring auditions ekasi, the plan is to bring good things to the township because currently, these opportunities are not easily accessible,” added Motlhabi.
