Duduza – The EMPD Eastern Region Task Team Unit pounced on six men for possession and possible dealing in illicit substances on June 28.

The successful drug operation resulted in the seizure of illicit substances worth R11 200. EMPD spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Kelebogile Thepa said EMPD officers are committed to tackling the ongoing drug dealings in the community.

“Officers apprehended a 26-year-old suspect at Ext 2 in Bluegumview with two packets of crystal meth valued at R200. The second suspect, aged 23, was cornered on Sontonga Street with 30 packets of rock valued at R3 000.

“Meanwhile, at Khuvuki Land section, officers cornered a 26-year-old suspect found with 28 brownish plastic wraps with a substance suspected to be illicit valued at R2 800,” said Thepa.

Thepa added that officers also responded to a tip-off about illegal trade in the vicinity, where the three suspects were apprehended.

“The information led officers to a house on Sontonga Street, where they intercepted a 26-year-old suspect caught with 12 packets of street heroin (nyaope), valued at R1 200. The sting operation held in Khuvuki Land yielded positive results that saw officers close in on another 26-year-old suspect, with 20 packets of street heroin (nyaope) valued at R2 000.

“The net slowly closed in for the sixth suspect, intercepted at the Masechaba section, with 10 packets of street heroin valued at R2 000,” added Thepa.

Thepa further cited that all the perpetrators were taken to the Duduza Police Station and should soon appear at the relevant magistrate’s courts.

“EMPD officers are committing to crack down on these drug syndicates. With help and accurate information from the public, we are winning this war,” she said.
