Kwa-Thema – EMPD Social Crime Prevention Unit officers rolled out presentations on drugs and substance abuse, coupled with domestic violence talks in Kwa-Thema on June 16.

EMPD spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Kelebogile Thepa said as they reached the halfway point of Youth Month, the EMPD officers continued to work tirelessly to engage communities and to bring about change.

“We want change to improve the livelihood of society, throughout the CoE.

“We are still experiencing a high number of youths roaming the streets, losing their lives and getting arrested due to drugs and substance abuse.

“It is evident that communities are still overwhelmed with the number of vulnerable youths at busy intersections around the townships and in urban areas,” said Thepa.

Thepa further added that officers engaged members of the public on how drugs negatively impact communities by increasing crime.

“Drugs and substance abuse lead to domestic violence in homes and we address men on how to protect women and children in the society,” added Thepa.

She further cited that the EMPD will continue to reach out to communities and visit play parks to address the youth on drugs and substance abuse.
