Duduza – The EMPD Social Crime Prevention Unit officers continued to engage learners on scholar patrol and child-in-traffic training in Duduza on July 19.

“Road traffic safety plays a major role in the livelihoods of communities and their safety on public roads. Officers took the time to share knowledge on the pillars of road safety at schools and promote pedestrian safety.

“Officers further engaged the scholar transport driver on maintaining a safe following distance, ensuring driver and vehicle fitness, avoiding overloading, and adhering to the speed limits,” said EMPD spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Kelebogile Thepa.

Thepa added that officers advised the learners to walk on the right-hand side of the road on the pavement, facing oncoming traffic.

“Learners were also taught always to wear bright clothes and use pedestrian crossings when crossing roads. The little ones were treated to a fun-filled day of dancing and singing songs to memorise the colours of the road traffic signal,” she added.
