Tsakani – Sporoville launched its latest programme, a feeding scheme, on Sunday. Formed in January, the organisation aims to provide a fulfilling meal to those who need it most.
“We also help the youth with skills programmes that change their lives. The organisation was created because we know that there are people who go to bed without food; also for grannies who take medication without eating food, which is dangerous,” explained Thabang Ramalatsi of Sporoville.
Founded by Sphiwe Molefi and his wife, Ntombi, of Noga Street, Sporoville also hopes to address issues of drug abuse.
“In this hood there are many people who smoke nyaope and always get beaten because of stealing.
“The reason for that is because they have nothing to eat,” added Ramalatsi.
The organisation is pleading for donations or sponsorships to help them expand to other areas.
“They say ‘indlala ibanga ulaka’ (hunger causes anger), if we can fight hunger first then we will be able to fight poverty later.
“We are stronger together and we will change many lives,” he concluded.
