Former Esibonelwesihle Secondary School learners will host the school’s 50th anniversary on September 24.

The school, established in 1974, replaced Charterston High School when Charterston’s black population was forcibly removed and relocated to Duduza.

“The last group was moved to Charterston in 1974 and 1975. Charterston High School was the only secondary school at the time in what was known as the Witwatersrand.

“Many people came from as far as Soweto and the Vaal to study at Charterston,” explained Zola Edwana, a former learner and an organiser of the event.

Edwana said the school produced many who became influential in SA.

“We want to invite all the former learners to celebrate this milestone and the great history that comes with it,” added Edwana.

Esibonelwesihle Secondary School is on 1689 Jacobs Street, Duduza. Call Zola Edwana on 078 687 9583 for more information about the event.
