Tsakani – Concerned resident Nonhlanhla Khumalo hosted an event at Malandela Ext 6 ground on Saturday to help young boys grow into good men.

“The reason for the event, called How To Groom a Boy Child, was to revive consciousness to boys is because most programmes celebrate and elevate girls, while boys are neglected.

“I believe positively grooming of a boy child is not an individual’s issue but a societal one,” explained Khumalo.

Khumalo also emphasised young boys need positive role models in their community.

“In future I would also love to mobilise a movement to lead the implementation of grooming a boy child.

“I want to drop the escalation of them committing suicide or taking drugs.

“I want this initiative to be a solution to these young stars and also want them to know it is okay to cry – not the indoda ayikhali (real men don’t cry) stigma,” she added.

The day’s events also included gumboot dancing and jumping castles for the children.
