Kwa-Thema – Local U15 junior clubs went head to head at the Sports Complex on Saturday. The games were a part of the continuation of the Springs Local Football Association Junior League that kicked off on May 25.

Sanders United went against Dunnottar Mighty Warriors FC for the top spot in a heated game.

Sanders United led in the first half, but the game took a turn when the Mighty Warriors scored two goals, taking the lead. Sanders United coach Zolile Maseko said the team’s mindset changed in the second half.

“When they realised they were losing, they turned around their game. Every player added something valuable to the team. They reverted to their usual playing style, securing us a 4-2 win,” Maseko added.

It was a frustrating game for the opposing team’s coach, Jack ‘Master’ Nkosi, who scolded the players from the sidelines.

“The middlefielders were not doing their jobs. When they had the ball, they didn’t open up. When they had to go to the opponents to close the gaps, they did not do that.

“You instruct the players to do something, and they do the opposite. That allows the opponents to attack,” he said.

However, he said he hopes his team will improve as the league progresses.

“I have a young team. The boys under 13 are still young and learning to play under pressure,” he added.

In another match, Jealous Down FC beat Junior Spinners FC in a game that ended 2-0.
