Kwa-Thema – The Springs Field Band also known as Londolusha competed against seven other bands across South Africa in the 23rd Field Band National Championships held at Wonderers Cricket Stadium on September 28.
In preparation for the competition, Londolusha organised a camp from September 22 until 28 at Tsimong Primary School, which 127 members attended.
“All our members are from Kwa-Thema, and for some, it was their first time competing at the Field Band Nationals. We were the third band to perform on the day, and the members delivered an outstanding performance.
“We then watched other bands perform their shows. Later our sports squad dancers took the stage and performed an amazing show,” said band project officer, Vuyani Mukandi.
He added the band won five trophies in five different categories and was announced as the 2024 national champions in the competition.
The trophies are:
• National championships: black like me trophy for best overall music performance
• National championships: creative excellence trophy.
• National championships: best pit percussion.• National championships: best dance performance.
• National championships: Bertie and Ronnie Lubner national championship trophy.
“Nqobile Mdluli, our band tutor won the man of the year award. This means out of eight bands, Londolusha won the first position.
