Kwa-Thema – The Lebo Care Centre recently treated children from Ward 88 o lunch and gave then clothes.
“I have always been concerned about the children in my neighbourhood and wondered how I could help. That is how the project started,” explained Jafta Lebogang Motlhanke, the founder.
Motlhanke operates an afterschool programme at his home with the help of an unemployed teacher.
“We help the children with their homework. For some, it is a safe place to relax and get a meal. We understand that when the children get home, sometimes there are no adults to look after them,” he explained.
Motlhanke said he cannot always afford to give the children a balanced meal because of financial constraints.
“My dream is for them to have all the supplies they need to do their school work and a guaranteed meal,” he added.
Motlhanke said the Plus Butchery had helped him many times.
Zakhele Mndebele from Plus said they would use every opportunity to help where they could, “We are always keen to assist our community. This project is one of many close to our hearts,” he said.
Motlhanke said he often uses a social worker when some of the children need interventions he cannot provide.
The children received clothes and toys donated by the community.
