Tsakani – MLT Institute in partnership with the Department of Social Development (DSD) celebrated Mandela Day with the community of Tsakani on July 18.

The event aimed to raise awareness about health issues and to inspire groups and individuals to access information and skills development programmes.

“We partnered with the DSD to provide information to the public on different careers to equip the youth with skills and knowledge.

“We aim to empower people through development coaching, business and innovation opportunities, provision of employment and market linkages,” said MLT Institute project manager Alfred Janaros.

The youth received information on skills development from different NPOs and stakeholders.

They invited various health sectors such as the South African National Blood Service to make the day a success, by offering free health advice and services.

Janaros said they will also distribute clothing, shoes, and non-perishable food and toiletries to disadvantaged persons.

“The community will be served a hearty cup of soup and a slice of bread. We aim to serve food to over 200 people, who will also receive blankets.

“Elders from the Tsakane Old Age Home will receive grooming services from our MLT Institute beauty therapy students,” he said.

He also added a local barber offered trimming and shaving services to the granddads. The elders also received free services such as health screening.
