Kwa-Thema – The Nomndayi CoGames will host a Women’s Day youth festival on August 9 at the Kwa-Thema Sports Complex.

“The idea of this netball festival was born from the organisation’s objectives of sports promotion and talent identification with the help of the Department of Sport and Recreation.

“We would like to recognise the massive contribution made by the two chairpersons of Nomdayi CoGames, Lot Msomi and Bongani Nonkelela,” explained the organisation’s CEO, Mandla Mabena.

He said netball is one of the sports that has not enjoyed much support from the public.

“Because netball is focused mainly on the girl child, we saw it fit to be involved and contribute towards small club development based in Kwa-Thema.

“The festival is in its inaugural year and a pilot project, focusing on the U15 and U19 age divisions, which we intend to host annually,” he added.

Mabena said that every participating club will receive new balls, and there will be medals for the top three positions in each division and new netball kits (four) for the two age group finalists.

Help from Naledi Moagi and Masabatha Mdluli from Nomndayi Games; Girly Moagi, the Gauteng netball convener; and Jane Mayisa, the Kwatsaduza netball convener, saw the event come together.

The participating teams are KNT, the Vital Vultures, the Tornado Academy, Shine On Us, MVP, Ulinda, the Early Birds, the Reedville Angels and The Wings.

“We urge the community and the sports family to support the children and the festival while we celebrate Women’s Day,” said Mabena.
