Governor Tim Walz is Kamala Harris‘ running mate, and many Democrats have expressed their full support for him. While Harris’ presidential campaign heats up, Walz pledged that he’s “all in” with her goals as the potential future president of the United States.

“It is the honor of a lifetime to join @kamalaharris in this campaign. I’m all in,” Walz tweeted on Tuesday, August 6. “Vice President Harris is showing us the politics of what’s possible. It reminds me a bit of the first day of school. So, let’s get this done, folks! Join us.”

Joe Biden

The president released a supportive statement, calling the Harris-Walz ticket a “a powerful voice for working people and America’s great middle class.”

Barack Obama

The former president released a lengthy statement via social media, writing, “When a presidential candidate chooses a running mate, it says a lot about who they are and what kind of president they’ll be. Do they pick someone inexperienced and polarizing who will deepen our divisions? Or do they pick someone with the judgment to make tough decisions, and the character to believe that every voice counts and everyone deserves an equal chance?”

Obama went on to note that by selecting Walz as her running mate, Harris “has chosen an ideal partner — and made it clear exactly what she stands for.”

“Governor Walz doesn’t just have the experience to be vice president, he has the values and the integrity to make us proud,” Obama added. “As governor, Tim helped families and businesses recover from the pandemic, established paid family leave, guaranteed the right to an abortion, and put common sense gun safety measures in place to keep communities safe. But Tim’s signature is his ability to talk like a human being and treat everyone with decency and respect – not all that surprising considering the fact that he served in the National Guard for 24 years and worked as a high school social studies teacher and football coach before being elected to Congress.”

At the end of his statement, Obama added that he and his wife, Michelle Obama, “couldn’t be happier for Tim and Gwen, their family, and our country.”

Pete Buttigieg

Buttigieg was a top contender for Harris’ running mate, and even though he wasn’t picked, the U.S. Secretary of Transportation tweeted his full support for Walz.

“Tim Walz is an exceptionally effective governor — and also great to work with,” Buttigieg tweeted. “I’m excited for what his Midwestern voice, military experience, and common-sense values will bring to our winning ticket, and for everything the Harris-Walz administration will deliver for Americans.”

Hillary Clinton

Clinton noted via X that she is “thrilled to see Tim Walz join the Democratic ticket” and praised his accomplishments as Minnesota’s governor.

“From providing free meals for schoolkids to implementing paid family leave in Minnesota, he’s about doing good in all the ways you can,” Clinton added. “He’ll be an incredible partner to our first woman president. Let’s go win this.”

Josh Shapiro

The VP contender released a statement about Harris’ running mate section, noting that he was “grateful” to have been “considered as her running mate.” However, Shapiro noted that his work as the governor of Pennsylvania is “far from finished.”

“Nearly two weeks ago, Vice President Harris asked me to work with her team to complete the vetting process to be considered as her running mate – and following those conversations, on Sunday, I was grateful to have the opportunity to speak with the Vice President directly about her vision for the role and the campaign ahead,” Shapiro explained in his statement. “As I’ve said repeatedly over the past several weeks, the running mate decision was a deeply personal decision for the Vice President – and it was also a deeply personal decision for me. Pennsylvanians elected me to a four-year term as their Governor, and my work here is far from finished – there is a lot more stuff I want to get done for the good people of this Commonwealth.”

Shapiro added that Harris has his “enthusiastic support,” and praised Walz as an “exceptionally strong addition to the ticket, who will help Kamala move our country forward.”

“Over the next 92 days, I look forward to traveling all across the Commonwealth to unite Pennsylvanians behind Kamala Harris’ campaign to defeat Donald Trump, become the 47th President of the United States, and build a better future for our country,” the politician concluded.
