Solution to Evan Birnholz’s June 9 crossword, ‘Mind Your P’s and Q’s’

Seven phrases have their P sound changed to a QU sound, leading to wacky results.

Although this isn’t explicitly baby-themed like this puzzle or this one, my son, Elliot, inspired this crossword. He sometimes lets out these incredibly cute, high-pitched squeaks when he’s playing on the ground or when we’re holding him steady in a standing position, so I’ve taken to calling him the SQUEAKER OF THE HOUSE among many other pet names for him. That was enough for me to explore more P-to-Qu puns like that. JOE SIX-QUACK made my wife laugh the instant I first said it, which made it a lock to be a theme answer, too. That’s an incredibly rare occurrence of an answer containing the letters J, X and Q in that order. There are phrases with the order J-Q-X such as JOAQUIN PHOENIX, but I couldn’t find other examples of J-X-Q answers in previous crosswords.
