“Our client’s home was surrounded by a lush green garden landscape, and we really wanted to be able to bring that feeling inside the home,” said Susan Sutter, a designer in Arlington, Va., of this kitchen project. They painted the island Sherwin-Williams’s Inverness, “a brighter, mossy green that evokes nature and plants,” to complement the floral wallpaper. They used a satin finish, “the standard finish that we use for cabinets,” she said. “It’s durable, but not high gloss, which is not very family friendly and practical [for] fingerprints and that sort of thing.” Annie Sloan, a British paint expert and the inventor of chalk paint, said these types of greens really do bring the outdoors in. “It serves as a gateway color between bolder hues and neutrals, seamlessly blending with all other colors found in nature,” she wrote in an email.
