In Tayarisha Poe’s “The Younger Spouse,” a marriage occasion performs out like a psychedelic fever dream. The digicam keens and swoops, birdlike, across the friends — who’re decked out in neon eye shadow and shiny pastel-colored outfits — and a synth-heavy rating lends the entire affair a touch of the uncanny.
However beneath these quirks, Poe’s dramedy tells a story as outdated as time (or a minimum of as outdated as “Runaway Bride”): of a lady who has chilly ft earlier than marriage.
Celestina (Kiersey Clemons) is a burned-out company lackey who has stop her job in a match of rage days earlier than tying the knot with River (Leon Bridges), a lawyer-turned-cupcake-baker.
