Umlilo won 8-1 in a match against Kwa-Thema United at the Kwa-Thema Sports Complex. The U13 boys lived up to their name as they showed the opposition flames in the Springs Local Football Association league game.
In their previous game, Umlilo had lost 2-0 against Smiling Bees. Umlilo’s coach, Paseka Nxaxo revealed that the team trained to redeem themselves in their upcoming match.
In the first 10 minutes, Umlilo scored three goals that were delivered by Thando Mmifi, Thabo Masango and Themba Mabaso. Nxaxo commented that the team missed four goal-scoring opportunities in the first half.
“I’m concerned about our middle fielders, they aren’t focused. And my defenders also need to train more.”
In the second half, Kwa-Thema United scored their first goal but they failed to catch up to Umlilo. Umlilo led the game by scoring five more goals securing their victory. Nxaxo said the league will only get tougher.
“The teams we will play against are organised and well prepared. We need to keep training and fix our mistakes,” he added.
Themba Tshabalala, Kwa-Thema United’s coach expressed that his players’ height played a role in their loss.
“They managed to dominate us but in the second half, our strategy was to move our fastest player from the middle field to the front.
“That’s how we managed to score. My players need to develop their way of playing,” Tshabalala said.
He concluded by encouraging parents to push their children to train.
“Parents play the role of motivating the boys to train consistently. The more we practice, the better we will be on the field,” he said.
