Tsakani – The Whispers FC soccer team received donations from the Ikeja WiFi Company at the Tsakani Stadium on September 13.

The donation came after the team identified an additional need for sporting gear. Team founder Evan Malepe said the team has performed well in every league they have participated in, saying receiving recognition and help from companies boosts their confidence and appearance.

“The company gifted us two soccer kits, lovely T-shirts branded with our team logo and the company’s emblem. This means the team now has three kits, a bonus for us,” said Malepe.

He gave the team coach a platform to express his gratitude, who relayed the things the team needed.

“The team has needed soccer boots, although we received a few as donations last season. We still need more because some teammates still do not have their own.

“We also need jerseys. Many are torn, and some are already faded. Socks are a problem for us. Socks are a must-have because we lose them from time to time,” said team coach Thando Simelane.

Simelane said the team T-shirts from Ikeja would motivate the players, more so because they had looked forward to getting new gear.

The social media manager at Ikeja Wifi, Sandiso Mbulelo, said the company runs a community empowerment initiative whereby it sponsors and donates to those needing support in areas where they have Wi-Fi connectivity.

“We are always looking for organisations, soccer teams, music creatives or any type of art/business to assist. I identified Whispers FC as a team deserving of our assistance.

“I noticed they are an active team and participate weekly in sporting activities. We looked into their motive, which is why we felt the importance of supporting and giving back to this team,” he said.

He added that their initiative ensures they help as many people as possible while also assisting the communities that continually support their business by giving back.

He said it is vital to encourage Whispers FC, saying their gesture would motivate the boys to keep pushing and playing soccer and strive for success. This would also increase the company’s visibility.

“Going forward, we will monitor the team’s progress, and should they do good, we will continue to invest in their well-being,” he added.
