“They’re a force together,” he emphasized, and Marissa—who plays Elphaba’s younger sister Nessarose—could only agree, sharing that their familial bond translated directly to their performances in the film.
“They have such a strong bond that I admire so much in the movie,” the 24-year-old explained. “These young girls are just figuring themselves out and translating into who they are as people—having a strong and loving bond to one another. It’s really cool to see and it’s really special.”
And Cynthia confirmed that all of this was artful and intentional, sharing a sister-like bond with her on-screen frenemy.
“The crux of this particular piece is the relationship,” the Tony Award winner told E!. “If we couldn’t be there for each other as Cynthia and Ari, then how could we possibly be there for the characters Elphaba and Glinda?”
