Bush Adventures, a non-profit company, hosted a Skate Festival at Duduza Reconciliation Park on June 17.
The event was to engage the youth in activities such as target shooting, archery, skating, and paintball.
The main event was the skating competition, where local skaters performed their tricks in competing for the top position.
The winner of the competition was Charles Lothe.
He said skating has become his lifestyle. He also encouraged skaters to stay dedicated to their craft and to be consistent.
Among the youth at the event was 16-year-old Owami Mdakane, the founder of Kwatsaduza Girls Skate.
“I started the organisation in 2023 because every time I came to skate, there were rarely any girl skaters.
“I wanted to show people that girls can also skate. We now have eight girls in total,” she said proudly.
She encouraged the young people to enjoy their youth days while they could. One skater Neo Ngoma, said he hopes Tsakane will soon have its own skate park.
“There is a skate park in Kwa-Thema and Duduza. I hope after this event, skating can become more exposed to Tsakani residents,” he said.
The NPC’s marketing manager, Bonginkosi Mokwane, said the event went well, and he was grateful for the support from the community.
