The EMPD Social Crime Prevention Unit officers continued to roll out scholar patrol and scholar transport training interventions in Springs, Kwa-Thema, and Tsakani on July 26.

The officers left no stone unturned when they embarked on road safety awareness at schools to prevent the high number of fatalities in the CoE.

“The officers engaged learners on their safety in traffic and the roles they must play to ensure their own safety. Furthermore, the officers shared knowledge on child abduction by advising the little ones not to speak to strangers as the officers used different mechanisms to capture the learners’ attention by allowing them to participate in illustrations,” said EMPD spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Kelebogile Thepa.

She added that among the discussions held was that of bullying and the negative impact it has on the victim’s and the perpetrator’s future.

“Scholar transport drivers were issued written notices for non-compliance on their vehicles and advised to ensure their vehicles are in a roadworthy condition before transporting school children,” she added.

The EMPD will continue rolling out interventions of this nature to remain a step ahead and reduce the number of road fatalities throughout the CoE.
