City manager Dr Imogen Mashazi officially signed a letter of engagement with the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) on October 24.
This engagement facilitates the start of an investigation into allegations of maladministration and other irregular activities within the CoE.
The investigation, as outlined in Proclamation No 195 of 2024, focuses on incidents of improper conduct and the potential misuse of public funds and resources.
The scope includes examining transactions and activities relating to transfers of vacant stands owned by the municipality in the Villa Liza township in Boksburg. This investigation was initiated at the city’s request, demonstrating its commitment to good governance.

Mashazi highlighted the municipality’s proactive stance, “The CoE requested the SIU to conduct this investigation to ensure accountability and transparency in our operations.
“We are committed to uncovering the truth and addressing any irregularities that may have occurred for the benefit of our residents and all our stakeholders.”
As part of this collaboration, the CoE is committed to supporting the SIU throughout this investigation. It will provide all necessary assistance to ensure a thorough and transparent process.
