Kwa-Thema – Vandals stripped the White City Clinic of equipment worth more than R100 000 in the early hours of Monday. The CoE appeals to residents to protect the facility and others.

“What makes the situation worse is that these facilities belong to the same communities where the vandals probably come from,” says city spokesperson Zweli Dlamini.

Healthcare services at the clinic were disrupted for a few hours yesterday to allow the forensic team to investigate. It resumed normal operations for the rest of the day.

The Kwa-Thema SAPS confirmed the vandals stole 15 computers, two TVs, two microwaves, cleaning materials, CCTV cameras and a monitor, all worth an estimated R155 000.

According to the communications officer of the Kwa-Thema SAPS, Constable Nkululeko Magudulela, a single security guard was on duty when four unknown men ambushed him.

“He alleged that he was doing his hourly patrol. He went back to his guard room to write the situation report.

“He heard a knock at the door. Suddenly, two armed men came inside the room. They threatened him, asking for his firearm, which he did not have.

“They took his cellphone and tied his hands behind his back. One of them called the others, and two more suspects emerged in the room.

“They [the vandals] took him to the main clinic, where they searched all the offices, which were unlocked, and took the mentioned goods,” explained Magudulela.

The CoE condemns the break-in and urges the public with any information about this crime to call the police on 08600 10111 or visit their nearest police station or EMPD precinct with the information.

African Reporter journalists visited the clinic but were prevented from entering and taking photos.

The CoE remains committed to providing quality healthcare services to its communities and condemns any acts that disrupt these essential services.
