Duduza daycare centres dedicated their 67 minutes for Mandela Day to serving food to clinic patients on Thursday.

Children and educators from Mbusomusha ECD, Olwethu Day Care, Stars ECD, and Precious ECD gathered to serve more than 50 patients porridge at the Lucky Mkhwanazi Clinic.

This act of kindness showed the little ones they could be a beacon of hope and lend a helping hand in the community.

“When the children commemorate Mandela Day, it enforces that every person has the power to make positive change, no matter their age,” Star ECD’s principal, Ntombifuthi Mazibukho, said.

She added that the centres aim to strengthen community bonds and enrich people’s lives.

“We specifically chose to serve patients to foster compassion and to assist those who might have to take their medication on an empty stomach,” she added.

The educators also served the community members who passed outside the clinic. One of the oldest was Janet Nhlapho, an 85-year-old granny happy to receive porridge.

The clinic’s facility manager, Anna Mokoena, expressed her gratitude to the daycare centres and admiration for the children who served the patients.

“It is great to see these children, as young as they are, are being taught to give back to the community, and they know the significance of dedicating 67 minutes of their time,” she said.

Patient Beronique Cloete said she could not have imagined a better way to celebrate Mandela Day.

“It was heartwarming to be served by the children and hear them singing songs. It was a great way to start our morning,” she said.
