Kwa-Thema – Over 300 Tsimong Primary School learners received Christmas gifts from the Santa Shoebox Project on Friday.
The air was thick with excitement when the grades R to Three learners waited for their names to be called.
“We hope the gifts will ensure the children enjoy their Christmas holidays.
“The project aims to ensure every learner has something to smile about at the end of the year. As a school, we consider ourselves lucky to be part of the project,” explained Nqobile Zwane, the school’s principal.
Zwane said it was not only the learners who were excited; so were their parents.
“We appreciate Santa Shoebox and everyone who donates to them. We also thank the parents for their constant support,” she added.
The Santa Shoebox Project began in Cape Town in 2006 with 180 shoeboxes. Since then, the number of Santa Shoeboxes donated has reached 1 226 756.
The shoeboxes are distributed to children at more than 1 000 educational and care facilities annually via satellites throughout SA and Namibia.
